Big Changes in 65nm Athlon 64 X2
The new Athlon 64 X2 4000+/4400+/4800+ re-release models are based on the 65nm Brisbane with 512KB x2 L2 Cache, rather than 1MB. The new clock speeds are 2.1GHz, 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz respectively. All of them are in *65W* TDP. An Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (renamed FX-64) should be released in this November.

Neuros OSD Hackable Linux Video Recorder (Gallery)
Via Gizmodo: Neuros updates their video recorder by leaps and bounds with the OSD. Like the last one, it records analog video sources to flash memory in formats easily read by PSPs and iPods. But this one has a USB port for drives, and ethernet port, so it can also store to network-attached storage. It catches video at 720x480 pixels, at 30 FPS.

I think this is the keyboard used by villians from James Bond movies, solely to show off how fiendishly evil they are. "My keyboard costs $1000. Why? Because I am an evil madman!" Even after reading the specs I'm still not sure why it costs so much. Surely stainless steel and silicone rubber aren't THAT expensive?

Intel quad-core Kentsfield to be named Core 2 Quadro
ntel is expected by the end of this month to officially name its Kentsfield quad-core desktop processor as the "Core 2 Quadro," with the first model to be an Extreme version, the Core 2 Extreme QX6700, which will be available starting in mid-November

Students send Camera to the Edge of Space for less than $2000 via Balloon
Carl Morland, Henry Hallam and Robert Fryers attached the tiny camera to a helium balloon, which flew to nearly four times the height of Everest. Throughout the flight it took images which show the curvature of the earth. The flight lasted about three hours, producing more than 800 images

Toshiba to recall Sony laptop batteries
Toshiba is recalling 340,000 laptop batteries worldwide made by Sony Corp , the latest in a series of problems for the company. The defect is not directly related to the problem behind last month's recall of Sony batteries by Dell Inc. and Apple Computer Inc., which cited concerns that the batteries could overheat and catch fire.

California to Ban Drivers From Holding Cell Phones
California will become the fourth state to ban motorists from holding cell phones while driving, under legislation Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced he would sign into law Friday. Under the new law, which does not take effect until July 2008, Californians risk a minimum $20 fine for driving while talking into a phone...
